Project Background

The product is used in deep-sea operations where production volume is low but the cost of field failure is high; The task was not only PCBA manufacturing; it required material selection, process control, inspection records, and long-term engineering collaboration

  • Application scenario: deep-sea robotics and marine engineering equipment
  • Low production volume with high reliability and traceability requirements
  • The customer needed continuous material validation support, not only build-to-print execution
02

Key Challenge

A single PCBA required multiple protection zones, each with different coating material requirements, plus underfill on selected components; The process window, material compatibility, and inspection record discipline all had to be controlled

  • Three conformal coatings had to be applied in separate zones without cross-contamination
  • Underfill needed to support pressure, vibration, and thermal reliability
  • Imported material lead time and cost created risk, requiring validation of local alternatives
03

Ledge Approach

Ledge defined a selective coating plan based on the customer's protection requirements and supported material validation throughout manufacturing; Coating parameters, material batches, underfill locations, and inspection records were kept in a traceable process

  • Defined coating boundaries, materials, and process parameters by zone
  • Supported validation of imported and local alternative materials to reduce future supply risk
  • Recorded coating, underfill, and inspection data at batch level for customer review
04

Result and Value

The project has continued with stable delivery and deeper customer trust; It shows that Ledge can act as a process and material validation partner for extreme-environment, low-volume programs

  • Reduced process failure risk for deep-sea electronic assemblies
  • Created additional material options for long-term supply continuity
  • Turned a complex process into a documented, repeatable production routine
05

Capabilities Proven

  • Complex conformal coating by zone
  • Underfill and high-reliability process control
  • High-mix low-volume manufacturing
  • Material validation and substitution
  • Batch-level traceability and inspection records
  • High-cooperation engineering collaboration
